Icicle Spear (Japanese: つららばり Icicle Needle) is a damage-dealing Ice-type multistrike move introduced in Generation III. Prior to Generation V, it was the signature move of Shellder, but other Pokémon could still inherit it via breeding.

It is:

Effect

Generation III

Icicle Spear inflicts damage, hitting the target 2-5 times per use. There is a 37.5% chance that it will hit 2 times, a 37.5% chance that it will hit 3 times, a 12.5% chance that it will hit 4 times, and a 12.5% chance that it will hit 5 times. Each strike made has an equal chance to be a critical hit.

Icicle Spear may continue attacking after breaking a substitute. Bide and Mirror Coat will only acknowledge the last strike of this move.

If the user is holding a King's Rock, each consecutive hit has an equal chance to cause the opponent to flinch.

Icicle Spear has a base power of 10.

Generation IV

Pokémon with the Ability Skill Link will always hit five times when using Icicle Spear unless it misses. Due to being now classified as a physical move, Icicle Spear is affected by Counter instead of Mirror Coat.

If the user is holding a Razor Fang, each consecutive hit has an equal chance to cause the opponent to flinch.

Generation V onwards

Icicle Spear's base power was increased to 25. There is now a 35% chance that it will hit 2 times, a 35% chance it will hit 3 times, a 15% chance it will hit 4 times, and a 15% chance it will hit 5 times. The average total base power is now 77.5.

If a Focus Sash activates before the last strike is dealt, the following strike will cause the defending Pokémon to faint. A Focus Band can still activate repeatedly to prevent fainting, but each chance is independent. Sturdy will activate with each hit if the defending Pokémon has a maximum HP of 1.

If the target has Weak Armor or Stamina, each strike will activate it.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Icicle Spear shoots a spread of five icicles in front of the user, with the center icicle aimed at the target. Multiple icicles can hit the same target.

Because Icicle Spear is classified as a long-range move, the user will move to its trainer's position before starting its wind-up; as such, it is more effective when used while the trainer is close to the target, allowing multiple icicles to hit.

Icicle Spear inflicts damage, hitting the target 2-5 times per use. Each hit has a separate accuracy check, though the move will continue even when a hit fails. The move's critical-hit rate is reduced (2% in the Rescue Team, Explorers and Adventure Squad series).

Starting in Super Mystery Dungeon, if a Reviver Seed activates, the move will end.

Glaceon
4 6s Has the user launch all of its stored ice crystals in rapid succession at the designated opposing Pokémon. If the user has no ice crystals when this move is used, 2 ice crystals are instantly created and those are launched. The crystals shatter when they hit the designated Pokémon, dealing damage to the opposing Pokémon in the area of effect. Launched ice crystals can hit Pokémon on the opposing team that are not the designated target of this move. If this occurs, the ice crystals will still shatter on impact and deal damage in an area of effect in the same way. Ice crystals launched by this move deal increasing damage each time they hit the same opposing Pokémon. After this move is used, the cooldown of Ice Shard or Freeze-Dry is reduced.
Upgraded to Icicle Spear+ when the Pokémon reaches Lv. 10.
Upgrade: Each launched ice crystal also deals additional damage to opposing Pokémon it hits equal to a set percentage of their max HP.
